Myth About Rape and Pregnancy Is Not New

The article I’ve came upon and read this week is an article I found on The New York Times called “Myth About Rape and Pregnancy Is Not New” published August 20, 2012, http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/08/20/myth-about-rape-and-pregnancy-is-not-new/
This article is about how some people claim that pregnancies from rape are very rare because if it’s genuine rape, the female body has different ways to try to shut that whole thing down. There was even a study done by the Center for Disease Control that estimated 32,101 pregnancies from rape each year in the United States. Which meant that only 5 percent of women who were raped actually became pregnant. An Arkansas Republican claimed that hormones that are generated by fear often prevent rape victims from getting pregnant. Which I thought was very interesting but his reason was that pregnancy rarely occurs after rape because the stress of the assault sets off some kind of biochemical reaction that prevents them from getting knocked up. I think what the writer wants us to understand from this article is that women who get raped hardly ever get pregnant because of the biochemical response that occurs in their bodies when there getting raped. This article really challenged me to think and do more research to find out if this information is true or not. But it did help me out with my question I have on abortions; it also provided some good useful information that I can use towards my curiosity question. Overall I thought that this article was interesting and was something that really made me think. I can’t really say that the information that I received from this article is true or not, but it gives me more details to help support my blogs.

  1. I thought this article was interesting because I didn’t know that they could prevent themselves not to get pregnant. This article was about how some ladies can prevent them by not getting pregnant because they are stressed and so many things going on in their body that it just shuts it out. I didn’t know that ladies can biochemical reaction that helps them not get pregnant but for others some of them get pregnant maybe cause they didn’t stress over it. In the article they mention that when they are getting rape their biochemical reaction in their body occurs and that keeps them from getting pregnant since they shut them out. I know for some younger girls they would get pregnant but for some older ladies they don’t maybe cause there so much going on. When reading this article the one that really stood out was the biochemical reaction that we had in our bodies that I never knew about. I like it when I read things I find out new things and you someone has question I can answer them. I think that when people get pregnant from rape they want an abortion because they don’t want the baby since it’s for someone else but when girls get rape and not pregnant they still think of that day. The question I have is do you think that’s really true that our bodies can do that?

  2. Reading that the women’s body is able to reject pregnancy from happening when they are being raped is very interesting. This made me think about the ducks and how they are able to choose who or which male to accept. What if all female species were all like that and there wouldn’t be young teen mothers. Unplanned pregnancy wouldn’t happen. The fear that the women have being raped does a good thing for the girls that were rapped. It is unfortunate for the women that were rapped and got pregnant. You picked an interesting topic.

  3. This article was crazy to read because i dont understand why people would say that girls cant get pregnant of rape, when i belive they can! It's still having sexual intercorse just not actually wanting to! Unplanned pregnancy could defiently happen, my mom got pregnant even when she was on the shot. It just seems to happen when you least expect it that 1% taht is left out of protection could cause a pregancy you just have to be extra careful. I mean there is people that try and try to get pregnant and it takes them a while to, but it all just depends on the persons body. So i dont agree when they say you cant get pregnant of rape if its completely possible i have seen and read alot of cases where little girls get pregant of off rape!
