Myth About Rape and Pregnancy Is Not New

The article I’ve came upon and read this week is an article I found on The New York Times called “Myth About Rape and Pregnancy Is Not New” published August 20, 2012, http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/08/20/myth-about-rape-and-pregnancy-is-not-new/
This article is about how some people claim that pregnancies from rape are very rare because if it’s genuine rape, the female body has different ways to try to shut that whole thing down. There was even a study done by the Center for Disease Control that estimated 32,101 pregnancies from rape each year in the United States. Which meant that only 5 percent of women who were raped actually became pregnant. An Arkansas Republican claimed that hormones that are generated by fear often prevent rape victims from getting pregnant. Which I thought was very interesting but his reason was that pregnancy rarely occurs after rape because the stress of the assault sets off some kind of biochemical reaction that prevents them from getting knocked up. I think what the writer wants us to understand from this article is that women who get raped hardly ever get pregnant because of the biochemical response that occurs in their bodies when there getting raped. This article really challenged me to think and do more research to find out if this information is true or not. But it did help me out with my question I have on abortions; it also provided some good useful information that I can use towards my curiosity question. Overall I thought that this article was interesting and was something that really made me think. I can’t really say that the information that I received from this article is true or not, but it gives me more details to help support my blogs.

Abortions for Rape Victims

This week I found an article that pertains to abortions and rape, pretty much similar to my first blog but this article mainly focuses on women in the military that have been victims of rape. I found this article on the The New York Times called "Abortions for Rape Victims" published on December 18, 2011, if you want to read the article it will be posted on the following link below. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/19/opinion/abortions-for-rape-victims.html?pagewanted=print&_r=0
This article is about why the military refuses to provide complete care for soldiers that have been raped. The reason why the military is not covering this kind of care is that there now so short on compassion that it won’t allow insurance coverage for abortion in cases of sexual assault. Basically what the writer wants us to know about this article is that the military won’t help women who have been raped victims while in combat. If the female soldier wants a safe, legal abortion, she must go overseas, which is pretty difficult because of the expensive trip that will disrupt her military service and also delay her abortion. This article gave me some useful information about my curiosity question. It simply supported that some women get abortions because they’ve been a victim of rape and it’s a harsh memory they try to forget and move on with.  I thought that this article was appealing but the thing that interested me the most was that the military can provide top of the line care for the wounded soldiers. But when it comes to a rape victim it seems like they don’t care, I think its time for rape survivors to get the same treatment.

Free Birth Control: Could It Transform Society?

I recently came across an article on Newsweek called Free Birth Control: Could It Transform Society? Published October 19, 2012; if you have any interest in reading this article you can find it on the posted link below http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/10/19/free-birth-control-could-it-transform-society.html
The article is about a recent study that has showed that when contraception was free of charge that the abortion rates went way down. But many people argue that free birth control could have a much wider effect on society. How could free birth control have a profound effect on society? Researchers have discovered that the effect of stress from a woman can reverberate for many years, into another generation, and throughout society. The group of researchers said that human beings have a “social brain”. Which basically helps us to distinguish a friend from enemy or to protect our territory. This also drives us to have sex, fall in love, and to do business. Sometimes the social brain doesn’t work as good and that creates mental disorders that affect the social brain. I think what the writer wants us to understand about this article is that free birth control can lower abortion rates but there are intense effects to it as well. The information that I read from this article gave me some useful information about abortions but didn’t exactly answer my curiosity question. The article was interesting and I thought that the free birth control was a good idea, because it was effective because it helped decrease the numbers of abortions.

Lawsuit Tries to Block New Arizona Abortion Law

This week I came upon a very interesting article that I found on the New York Times called “Lawsuit Tries to Block New Arizona Abortion Law” published on July 20, 2012. If you want to read this article it can be found on the link posted below.
This article is about a group of women’s rights supporters and doctors who face up to Arizona’s new abortion limits in a federal lawsuit. They claimed that they violated the constitution and pose a threat to women’s health. The article also mentioned that the new Arizona law allows medical exceptions only in extreme emergencies, such as where the delay can cause the mother’s death or irreversible injury of a major bodily function. What the writer wants us to understand in this article is that the Arizona law will support women to have abortions only in emergency cases where it can cause death to the mother. And a woman has to be in a dreadful emergency to have an abortion. The information that I read from this piece helped support my question on abortions. It answered some of my questions; it gave me another reason why women have abortions. What I acquired from this article is that some women get abortions to save their lives in emergency situations during labor. I received some good facts from this passage and has fueled me with more questions on this issue. The article was interesting to me; I know the law was written to protect the health and safety of women in addition to protect the pre-born children from pain and death. Many people are for it and there are many that are completely against it, in the end it’s the women’s choice. I know that abortion is still wrong but I don’t really have an opinion on this issue because I’m not a woman.

How to End the Abortion Wars

This week I read an article that pertains to the issue on abortions on Newsweek called “How to End the Abortion Wars” published August 20, 2012, if your interested in this topic you can find the article on the flowing link posted below http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/08/20/common-sense-pro-life.html
This article is pretty similar to my last one because it’s basically U.S. Representative’s views on this issue and how they think they can solve this matter on abortions in this country. In this passage the writer wants us to understand that Civilians in the abortion wars try to draw distinctions between cases where abortion becomes more wrong and where it becomes less wrong. The information that I retrieved from this article helps support some of my questions on this subject but didn’t give me enough information on woman’s opinions. I wish that some of these articles would at least give some feed from women’s views rather than just focusing on the politician’s standpoint. I thought the article gave me some good helpful info but after reading this I certainly didn’t find the answer to how to end the abortions wars. If anti abortion people were looking for genuine solutions to reduce abortions rather than just controlling women, they would be championing efforts to make sure contraception was affordable and available. They would be demanding that high schools teach wide-ranging sex education rather than supporting the withholding of facts and health information from Americans by supporting abstinence only education. My question on why do women have abortions is partly answered but I know I will find more articles that will help resolve my question.

Rape Victims and Abortion

I recently read an article on The New York Times entitled "Rape Victims and Abortion" published on August 22, 2012, if you want to read the article it can be found on this link http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/23/opinion/rape-victims-and-abortion.html

The article is basically about Representative Todd Akins's responds to representative Paul D. Ryan and Mitt Romney's thought on abortions including cases of rape. What the writer wants us to understand in this article is that women of sexual assault also known as rape should have the right to have abortions. And that all abortions should be illegal unless it’s been a case of rape. The information that I got from this article pretty much answered my question on why do women have abortions, but I know there are many more reasons why women have abortions. The article gave me some good evidence and will help me a lot with my curiosity question. I thought that the article had some good reasons why some women have abortions but I know it’s something I don’t support because I know it’s wrong. I know many will say that “You’re not a woman! You don’t have to deal with pregnancy”. All I’m saying is that I know having abortions is wrong; this article gave me a respectable clear answer why some women have them. It seems like many young females have abortions for all the wrong reasons like, their too young, that they don’t want the kid and they don’t want the responsibility to raise a child. Well that’s their fault for having sexual intercourse and not being responsible.
