This week I found an article that pertains to abortions and
rape, pretty much similar to my first blog but this article mainly focuses on
women in the military that have been victims of rape. I found this article on the The New York Times called "Abortions for Rape Victims" published
on December 18, 2011, if you want to read the article it will be posted on the
following link below. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/19/opinion/abortions-for-rape-victims.html?pagewanted=print&_r=0
This article is about why the military refuses to provide
complete care for soldiers that have been raped. The reason why the military is
not covering this kind of care is that there now so short on compassion that it
won’t allow insurance coverage for abortion in cases of sexual assault.
Basically what the writer wants us to know about this article is that the
military won’t help women who have been raped victims while in combat. If the female soldier wants a safe, legal abortion, she must go overseas, which
is pretty difficult because of the expensive trip that will disrupt her
military service and also delay her abortion. This article gave me some useful
information about my curiosity question. It simply supported that some women get
abortions because they’ve been a victim of rape and it’s a harsh memory they
try to forget and move on with. I
thought that this article was appealing but the thing that interested me the
most was that the military can provide top of the line care for the wounded
soldiers. But when it comes to a rape victim it seems like they don’t care, I
think its time for rape survivors to get the same treatment.
This article was very interesting to read and very informative. I had no idea that women in the military could get raped while being in the services. That is pretty surprising to find out and that they would want abortions. Well I understand why they would want abortions, so they can continue to serve our country and do what they’re interested in. That is pretty sad though, that the military won’t cover the insurance. They should at least be understanding and see that it wasn’t the women’s fault. I also think they should be more careful and watchful on what goes on around the camp sites, this would prevent rape cases. The military services should at least help out with this and show that they are interested with their military women. Going back overseas just to get an abortion is a lot to do and think about, especially with the expenses. I guess being in the military could be scary because of men who rape. I thought they would be more professional than that and stick to their duties and missions. I just hope they do something about that problem soon before it gets worse. I, personally, am against abortions because I just think it’s not right. They don’t see that they are taking away a life that was created. It’s just sad to think women actually get abortions, especially young ladies. But, it’s their choice and they should learn from the experience next time.
