Free Birth Control: Could It Transform Society?

I recently came across an article on Newsweek called Free Birth Control: Could It Transform Society? Published October 19, 2012; if you have any interest in reading this article you can find it on the posted link below http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/10/19/free-birth-control-could-it-transform-society.html
The article is about a recent study that has showed that when contraception was free of charge that the abortion rates went way down. But many people argue that free birth control could have a much wider effect on society. How could free birth control have a profound effect on society? Researchers have discovered that the effect of stress from a woman can reverberate for many years, into another generation, and throughout society. The group of researchers said that human beings have a “social brain”. Which basically helps us to distinguish a friend from enemy or to protect our territory. This also drives us to have sex, fall in love, and to do business. Sometimes the social brain doesn’t work as good and that creates mental disorders that affect the social brain. I think what the writer wants us to understand about this article is that free birth control can lower abortion rates but there are intense effects to it as well. The information that I read from this article gave me some useful information about abortions but didn’t exactly answer my curiosity question. The article was interesting and I thought that the free birth control was a good idea, because it was effective because it helped decrease the numbers of abortions.

  1. This article was very interesting to read about for the fact that a lot of woman can’t afford it and it may help a lot of the rate of abortions but it doesn’t help the fact on some woman may not use it even if its free. I understand what you’re saying that it also drives us to have sex, fall in love, and to do business with more people without worrying about getting pregnant. Just to know that more people will being doing that makes me worry with a lot more disease that people may have without unprotected sex just because you are on birth control. So I guess if it passes to get free birth control there should be a warning sign on them. Plus it also will lower the abortion rate. There are some people that are allergic to it so they may not use and so you will still have the rate of abortion somewhat up. Another good thing about free birth control is it may help some family to avoid having more kids and some can’t afford it so they don’t buy it so if it’s free it shouldn’t be a big problem. When it comes down to it free birth control is a great idea to help the teen rate of being moms. Another problem to this is that the parents may not want to get it for them due to them thinking they may be having sex at such a young age. I think it’s better safe to have it than have your kids get pregnant.

  2. I don’t know a lot about birth control but I have to guess it’s to help lower the side affects of a girl on her period?? We all know a real reason for a girl to want birth control. I haven’t met a girl that doesn’t like sex, yet… Everything these days has side effects. Like if you don’t do your home work you are going to get a 0%. If you do a drug some of the times you’re going to get addicted. I have to say that nothing is more addicting than sex. But having a kid is supposed to be saved for when you’re married. When you have a life set up; well that’s my point of view. Birth control is supposed to lower the chance of getting pregnant. How much is the chance lowered?? Yes if it was free then it would be a great thing for the people of the US. Not only are some people allergic to it but their family is against it. Their family might have a faith that is completely not for their daughter having the pill. Plus they can’t just go out and get it. I’m pretty sure that you have to be 18 to get it?? What’s the show called “16 and pregnant”? So girls are have sex at a young age and getting knocked up by guys who leave them. Sounds like we need free condoms passed out. Or sex Ed classes to teach kids what it’s like to have a kid when you’re young. Oh wait we do! Don’t get me wrong I agree that it should be free but I think there is a bigger and personal problem to solve.
